The most reliable way to lose weight and become healthy is by cooking your own meals from scratch using fresh, real, healthy food. This is the way everybody used to eat before the food industry invented highly processed, chemically adulterated food-like substances and called them ‘ready meals’. Industrial food production is dominated by global corporations whose profits are counted in the billions. If your weekly shopping contributes to those huge profits, you should perhaps remember that these companies spend a great deal of money on research but the research is directed almost entirely towards taste and texture. They don’t bother themselves too much with nutritional value, they just want you to come back and buy their products again.
Different types of fake food could fill this entire website but let’s just look at one example. This is taken from the Quaker Oats website promoting their product “Quaker Instant Oatmeal – Strawberries and Cream”. The page starts with this:
“Imagine a warm summer morning and a fresh bowl of juicy, sun-ripened strawberries topped with rich, dairy cream. Now imagine all of that warmth and rich flavour in a bowl of Quaker Oats. Our Strawberries & Cream Flavoured Instant Oatmeal offers you a hint of summer any time of year.”
A bowl of fresh strawberries topped with rich, dairy cream would be an excellent thing to eat, because it is delicious, healthy real food. Unfortunately, we are talking about fake food here. In the opening line of the description there is a strong insinuation that this product contains strawberries and cream but a careful look at the ingredients shows that it does not.
WHOLE GRAIN ROLLED OATS, SUGAR, CREAMING AGENT
(MALTODEXTRIN, SUNFLOWER AND PALM OILS, WHEY, SODIUM
CASEINATE), FLAVOURED AND COLOURED FRUIT PIECES (DEHYDRATED
APPLES [TREATED WITH SODIUM SULFITE TO PROMOTE COLOUR
RETENTION], ARTIFICIAL STRAWBERRY FLAVOUR, CITRIC ACID, RED 40),
SALT, GUAR GUM, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOUR, CITRIC ACID, NIACINAMIDE*,
VITAMIN A PALMITATE, REDUCED IRON, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE*,
RIBOFLAVIN*, THIAMIN MONONITRATE*, FOLIC ACID*
The fruit is actually dehydrated apple which has been sprayed with a chemical (sodium sulfite) so that it will retain the colour of the artificial colour (red 40) that was added to make it look like strawberry. The ‘cream’ is a creaming agent made from a mixture of industrial seed oil, proteins extracted from milk and maltodextrin, which is a type of sugar. You should also notice that the second ingredient by quantity is sugar.
If you want to live a long, healthy, happy life you should avoid processed, fake food and eat real food that you cook yourself. Please read the information on the Member’s Home Page for general guidance and the pages listed beneath this one for more specific ideas and recipes.
